NEC PC-6001 Home Computer + PC-6082 Data Recorder – Complete in Box, Tested, Working

A genuine slice of Japanese computing history: this NEC PC-6001 — NEC's answer to the early-80s home computer boom, released in Japan in 1981 — comes complete with its matching PC-6082 (DR-320) cassette data recorder, both still in their original factory boxes. This is the real deal for a collector, not a picked-over eBay parts unit: the console powers up, boots straight into N60-BASIC by Microsoft (1981) with a clean 13,756 bytes free, and everything from the distinctive orange function keys to the kana-labeled keyboard is present and accounted for.

The bundle includes a genuinely exciting extra for paperwork collectors: the original NEC warranty envelope is still sealed shut, never opened. The PC-6082 data recorder is unused-looking — still wrapped in its factory poly bag inside its foam-lined box with its manual — and the console's own AC adapter is present in its own separate factory packaging as well.

Condition Notes

• The PC-6001 console itself is tested and confirmed powering on and booting cleanly into N60-BASIC (Microsoft, 1981) — see photo of the actual boot screen.
• The PC-6082 data recorder has NOT been tested. It was not connected to the console and no tape was inserted or run through it during listing — it is sold as-is, with functionality unknown. Given its like-new/unused appearance (still in its factory poly bag) it's a promising candidate, but buyers who need working cassette load/save should budget for the possibility of servicing or aligning the tape mechanism.
• Both original boxes show real, honest shelf wear: the PC-6001 box has torn and creased corners with some old tape repairs (see photos) — the box is a nice bonus but is not in collector-grade shape. The PC-6082 box is in noticeably better condition with only minor edge wear.
• The console's case shows the warm two-tone yellowing typical of vintage ABS plastic, a bit more pronounced along the lower side skirt than the top — cosmetic only, a hallmark of an honestly-aged original unit.
• The data recorder's bottom cover has a couple of light surface scuffs near the label — cosmetic only.
• No cracks, missing keys, or broken latches noted on either unit.
