Kaypro II CP/M Luggable Computer – Keyboard, Manuals & Floppy Software Bundle, As-Is

The Kaypro II is one of the definitive early-80s CP/M "luggables" — a full computer, keyboard, and 9-inch green-screen monitor packed into a rugged blue-and-gray steel case with a built-in carrying handle. This bundle comes with its matching keyboard, a genuinely nice set of five original Kaypro manuals (Microsoft BASIC, CP/M, ReportStar Training Guide, and the WordStar/MailMerge User's Guide), and a bundle of period floppy diskettes.

We want to be upfront about where this one stands: powered on, the unit lights up — the CRT is active and both floppy drive activity lights illuminate — but what we captured on screen was the character "snow" pattern common on CP/M machines in the moment right after power-on, not a clean boot to a CP/M prompt. We did not confirm a full successful boot into CP/M during listing, so this is being sold as-is. It's entirely possible this boots fine and we simply didn't capture the right moment or need to try a different disk — but we'd rather tell you exactly what we saw than oversell it.

What's Included

• Kaypro II system unit with built-in 9" monitor and dual full-height 5.25" floppy drives
• Matching detachable Kaypro keyboard with coiled cable
• Five original Kaypro manuals: Microsoft BASIC (x2, slightly different printings), CP/M, ReportStar Training Guide (spiral-bound), and User's Guide for WordStar/MailMerge
• A bundle of roughly a dozen 5.25" floppy diskettes in a storage box — see condition notes below for an important compatibility caveat before assuming these all work with this machine

Condition Notes

• Powers on: the CRT is active and both drive activity lights illuminate when powered up. A full, confirmed CP/M boot to a working prompt was NOT captured or verified during listing — see the description above. Sold as-is; we recommend a buyer comfortable with vintage CP/M troubleshooting (floppy drive belts, video alignment, etc. are common service items on machines this age).
• IMPORTANT on the included diskettes: this is a mixed lot, not a matched software library. Several disks are clearly labeled "KAYPRO 16" and one is labeled "KAYPRO 10" — those are different Kaypro models with different disk formats (the 16 is MS-DOS-based) and are almost certainly NOT usable on this Kaypro II. There are also several handwritten "K2-1" through "K2-5" disks that are more likely actually formatted for a Kaypro II, plus one blank spare diskette — but none of the media was tested for readability. Treat the whole lot as an interesting period-correct bonus, not confirmed working software.
• The top case has noticeable cosmetic damage on the upper-left area: several patches of missing/peeled finish (looks like old label or paint removal) down to a lighter substrate, including a partial faded red marking. Clearly visible in photos — cosmetic, but not subtle.
• The keyboard keycaps are clean with no notable wear, and the coiled cable and connector look intact.
• The manuals show ordinary shelf wear — edge yellowing and light cover scuffing consistent with age — but are complete with no torn or missing pages noted.
• No cracks noted on the case exterior beyond the top panel finish damage described above.

A great-looking shelf piece and a real project for someone who wants to dig into CP/M-era hardware, backed by a genuinely nice set of original manuals. Priced and described as-is to reflect that the boot sequence wasn't fully confirmed — bring your troubleshooting kit, or just enjoy it as a classic luggable on display.

Ships securely double-boxed with heavy padding — these are dense, heavy machines. Keyboard, manuals, and diskettes packed separately from the main unit. Buyer message before combining shipping with another item.
